The most recent report on educational foundations across the country from the Caruthers Institute suggests that in the Kansas City metro, the Shawnee Mission Educational Foundation may be in a class by itself.
The institute’s “Stepping Up: The Top K-12 Education Foundations in the Nation” report released this week puts SMEF among the top ten educational foundations in the country in the division that ranked foundations with revenues between $500,000 and $999,999 annually. Caruthers ranked the top ten foundations out of 220 from districts across the nation in four divisions based on their annual revenue. No other district in the metropolitan area made the top ten lists. It marks the second year in a row that SMEF was the only area district to make the rankings.
